Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Humidity Control
Using dehumidifiers, Humiscope provides optimal indoor climate control for the manufacture and storage of gelatin capsules, pan coating, tablet manufacturing and hygroscopic compounds.
Storage Conditions for Gelatin Capsules
There are two different types of gelatin capsules, dry and hard. Once formed gelatin has to be dried carefully without excessive heat.
The manufacture of gelatin capsules requires precise temperature and relative humidity (RH). For example, if the air temperature and humidity used to dry gelatin is too low, it will set rapidly and becomes brittle. If air temperature and humidity is too high, the gelatin will not solidify correctly.
Humidity Control in Tablet Pan Coating
Tablet coating is either aqueous or solvent based and is done in a controlled atmosphere, inside a perforated rotating drum. The coating is applied using a drying process using a rotation pan.
Moisture present during the coating process adversely affects both the physical properties and chemical stability of the moisture sensitive medicine. Humiscope can supply dry air at a specific humidity and temperature level to evaporate moisture in the pan and allow the coating to dry on the base.
Effervescent Tablets & RH
Consistent and stable relative humidity (RH) levels need to be maintained when handling and storing hygroscopic compounds.
Effervescent tablets are dissolved in water before being consumed. Thus the ingredients of effervescent tablets are extremely hygroscopic.
To avoid unwanted moisture absorption, the relative humidity of the air must be kept at a low level during the manufacturing process until the product is enclosed in a moisture tight package.
Pharmaceutical Manufacturing - What is the Ideal Humidity Level?
The optimal humidity level for powder and compound pills and gelatin capsules should remain no higher than 25% RH. The ideal conditions of the inlet airflow of the coating pan is at an ambient temperature of between 32 and 35° C with a 15-20% RH.
